Welcome to atenu.org (“Atenu,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our e-learning platform and all related services. By accessing or using Atenu, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, browsing, or using any part of Atenu, you acknowledge and agree to comply with these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations. These Terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and any person or system that accesses the platform.
2. User Accounts
- To access certain features, you must register and create an account with accurate information.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activities under your account.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts created with false or misleading information, or accounts that violate these Terms.
- Each account is for personal, individual use only. Account sharing is not permitted.
3. Acceptable Use
- Do not use Atenu for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive activities.
- Do not upload, post, or share content that is offensive, discriminatory, defamatory, or infringes on the rights of others.
- No cheating, plagiarism, or academic dishonesty is permitted.
- Respect other users, educators, and the integrity of the platform at all times.
4. Intellectual Property — Content Protection
- Ownership: All content on Atenu — including but not limited to courses, QuickNotes, quizzes, exam questions, Anki flashcard decks, images, videos, text, graphics, software, code, and all other materials — is the exclusive property of Atenu Foundation or its licensors. All content is protected by Canadian and international copyright, trademark, and intellectual property laws.
- No Copying or Reproduction: You may not copy, reproduce, republish, download, store, transmit, distribute, sell, license, modify, create derivative works from, or publicly display any content from Atenu in any form or by any means — whether electronic, mechanical, photocopying, recording, or otherwise — without our prior written permission.
- No Commercial Use: Atenu content may not be used for any commercial purpose, including but not limited to reselling courses, creating competing educational materials, or distributing content on other platforms or social media.
- No Repackaging: You may not repackage, rebrand, or present Atenu content as your own work or the work of any third party.
- Screenshots and Screen Recording: Taking screenshots, screen recordings, or any other form of capture of Atenu content for the purpose of redistribution, sharing, or commercial use is expressly prohibited.
- User-Generated Content: Content you create and post on Atenu remains your property. However, by posting, you grant Atenu a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute it on the platform.
5. Anti-Scraping, Bots, and Automated Access
- No Bots or Scrapers: You must not use bots, spiders, scrapers, crawlers, data miners, or any automated software, tool, or script to access, index, scrape, collect, harvest, or download any content, data, or information from Atenu.
- No Bulk Downloading: Systematic or bulk downloading of courses, quizzes, flashcards, images, or any other content is prohibited, whether done manually or through automated means.
- robots.txt Enforcement: Atenu maintains a robots.txt file that restricts automated access. You must respect and comply with the directives in our robots.txt file at all times. Disregarding robots.txt directives constitutes a violation of these Terms and may constitute unauthorized access under applicable computer fraud and abuse laws.
- AI Training Prohibition: You may not use any content from Atenu — including text, questions, answers, course material, or any other data — to train, fine-tune, or develop any artificial intelligence model, machine learning system, large language model, or similar technology without our explicit written authorization.
- API Access: No unauthorized use of Atenu’s APIs, endpoints, or backend services is permitted. Access is limited to the functionality provided through the standard user interface.
- Monitoring and Enforcement: We actively monitor access patterns and employ technical measures to detect and block unauthorized automated access. We reserve the right to block IP addresses, ban accounts, and take legal action against violators without prior notice.
6. Content Theft and Infringement
- DMCA and Takedown Notices: If we discover that Atenu content has been copied or redistributed without authorization — on any website, app, social media platform, messaging group, or any other medium — we will issue takedown notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and equivalent international copyright frameworks.
- Legal Action: Atenu reserves the right to pursue civil and criminal legal action against individuals or organizations that steal, copy, redistribute, or commercially exploit our content. This includes seeking damages, injunctive relief, and recovery of legal costs.
- Reporting Infringement: If you become aware of any unauthorized use of Atenu content, please report it immediately to info@atenu.org.

8. Payments and Refunds
If you purchase paid courses or services, you agree to provide accurate payment information. We accept bank transfers to Zemen Bank and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). All sales are final and non-refundable. Please see our Refund Policy for details.

- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account immediately, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, misuse the platform, or engage in any prohibited activity described herein.

12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, and the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, without regard to conflict of laws principles. In the event of any dispute, you agree that the competent courts of either Ontario, Canada or Ethiopia may have jurisdiction, as appropriate.
